Weekend in Varanasi, India
Some months ago me and Anna-Karin did visit Varanasi in India. It is the holiest place in Hinduism and it is supposed to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. We went there by train, stayed three nights and then flew back to Delhi. Walking back and forth along the river Ganges is a fantastic experience. Holy men, prayers and touts are every where. You hear "hello boat" everywhere. Men with small rowing boats are trying to get you to ride with em for an hour on the river. We started every morning at 5 with a boat ride and a slow walk along the beach. Then it became extremely hot with 48 degrees in the shadow. Only thing to do was to head back to the hotel and sleep for some hours. Then back in the boat for a slow ride in the sunset. The days ended with dinner and a scary walk through the maze of pitch black very crowded streets.
