Göteborgsvarvet 2005

I took my new camera and tried to take my first sport pics at the half marathon race Göteborgsvarvet. Mixed results but a great learning experience. Have a look at the pics.

Sailing with the new Swedish Match 40

Magnus Holmerberg (SWE) and Staffan Lindberg (FIN) met to practice in Gothenburg on a cloudy day. See how the new Swedish Match 40 behaves when put in the hands of two top level match racing crews. Start movie .

Saas-Fee to Zermatt breaking 4000 m

Back to Chamonix again for another walk in the mountains. This time we tried to climb three 4000 m summits. Sunshine the first four days and then a small blizzard that left nice powder. A great trip with great people. Pictures from the trip in the gallery.

Swans and flowers

I got a new camera. Took it out for a test ride. Found some swans and this springs first flowers. I love the camera all ready :-) See the first test shots.

New York Marathon in pain

I have just finished the New York Marathon with mixed feelings. The start gave me goose bumps. The song New York, New York with Frank Sinatra sent 35 000 runners away over the Verracano Bridge. With sunshine and temperatures around 16´C, conditions were excellent for running. The first 20k were great. I held the planned pace without any problems. Entering Brooklyn was soooo cool. Loads of people cheering, bands playing at many street corners and firefighters raising their ladders draped in flags. I felt really good.

Then, just before Queensboro Bridge, I felt small stings of cold in my back. A feeling I have never felt before.I stopped to drink some Gatorade and then kept running. At the top of the bridge it felt like my legs just froze. I instantly got cramps in both my legs, from my hips and down to my heels. My only option was to walk. When I reached First Ave. I almost started to cry. The street is perfectly straight. I could see a river of runners for 6 km ahead of me. Very depressing. Somehow I got into my head that at the end of the street I would find the finish line. I kept going and drank as much Gatorade as I could. I also had some Power Gel but that had no effect. When I reached the end of the street someone told I only had 10k to go. Not a very pleasant message

When I entered Central Park I had gotten cramps in my back and both my triceps. I don't remember that much but the park seemed to be bigger than when I visited it the day before. I had to sit down twice when the pain in my shoulder got too bad.

When I crossed the finish line I needed to sleep badly. I found a pallet, lay down and dozed off. Suddenly I was shaken awake by a medic. She forced me to my feet and told me to keep walking. Every time I stopped, a medic was at my side, gave me some salt and forced me to move on. I found my wind jacket and pants, ate some candy and then managed to find a spot where the medics couldn't see me. I fell a sleep. It felt great. When I woke up it was dark. I had terrible pain in my left heel. I limped down the path to the subway and left the park.

My goal was to finish the race in 4h 15min. When the day was over I had spent 5h 36min 29 sek on the course. What a disappointment. When I look back at this experience I realise that I was badly prepared. I have to run more, longer and harder when I prepare for my next marathon.

Sunset over Rönnäng

In late july I visited my parents new summer house on the tip of the island Tjörn. Very relaxing ... We went for a walk in the evening and I decided to take my first digital sunset pictures. Check out what a compact camera and a tripod can do :-) under pictures.

Geeks gone sailing

Me and some friends from work went sailing and ended up in Marstrand. Late that night all the fun almost ended when the harbour police told us we were violating some sort of rule. We took to Värdshuset (a local pub) and the party kept going. The night finished with a split. Mikael was lost, Conny and Leif went swimming and I went cooking hot dogs for a danish girl. Everybody thought Mikael had left with his wife. But in the morning we found him sleeping in the boat. It was a slow morning.... see the pics.

Gotland Runt 2004

This was my fifth Gotland Runt were I sailed as bowman on Essex Girl. She is a 47ft sexy one off racer built in carbon. Great boat for offshore racing. Mats, the owner, had invited the same group of sailors as the year before. This crew is experienced and hard working. Great sailor and good friends. I am so happy I get the opportunity to go racing together with them. Check out the pics..

Ruhm drinks in Marstrand

Malin, Martin, Henrik and I had a nice night spiced up with some ruhm. To bad we didnt bring the camera to the pub... see the pics.
